"Energy is an eternal delight, and he who desires, but acts not, breeds pestilence. " William Blake

As I was watching Neeya Nana - a Tamil talk show on Star Vijay TV. I could not help but relate that to the Matrix  - which I have watched more than 10 times (literally)!!

Getting back to Neeya Nana - this weeks topic was - why do we (current generation of Indians) break up ( from a relationship)? It was a very insightful and interesting topic to understand the mindset of young adults in India for me. As I was watching it, I pondered about our idea of our thoughts and our sense of who we are. And I just can't not think of what Jean-Luc Godard said: “It’s not where you take things from - it’s where you take them to.”  In the first few scenes of Matrix, Morpheus describes the "real" world as "the desert of the real". By this, he means that there is nothing real about the real world at all, that everything is a copy of a copy with no original, no ultimate underlying reality. There is no intrinsic meaning outside of what we give it, that the world is essentially meaningless and machine-like, chugging along mindlessly in its own self-perpetuating elaborations. No choice, just action and reaction. This is, as I understand it, pretty much straight-up Postmodernism.

"There is nothing new under the sun." - Jean Baudrillard

A simple understanding how the geology of the planet is continuously recycling itself will revel. There is no such thing as an "original" continent. The entire crust has been thrust up and dragged back down into the earth's interior more times than anyone can count. It's like a boiling stew. Every rock, every bit of sand, every molecule of water has been broken apart and reassembled countless times. There is literally nothing new, nor, for that matter, original. Hence, the idea that Life has an Ultimate Meaning does not hold . This has meaning relative to that, and this has purpose in the context of that, but this and that together have no external reference......no context in which to take measure. Life at once cannot be contained in meaning. This is not the same as saying life is meaningless, because to say "meaningless" is to assign negative meaning. It is more accurate to say that it is inherently free of either meaning, or absence of meaning.

Wachowski Brothers (the creators of The Matrix Trilogy) are telling us that we exist in a swirl that has neither beginning nor end. It operates on many different levels, but its inherent limitations are the same regardless of which level you take it on. What we call "the world" is nothing more than a machine. It has rules, but no purpose. It isn't "going anywhere". It just is, and it is perfectly happy to be what it is. But we on the other hand fail to realize it, letting emotions clog our understanding of reality. It seems; this is the ultimate cosmic purpose, no matter how gloriously conceived, is a nightmare scenario where everything is bound, subordinated, and ultimately reduced to that purpose alone. It is the absolutizing of relative and contingent purpose, the fraction consuming the whole.

Poetically speaking, all I can see is endless free-play. This free-play has pattern and rhythm that in human experience has a basic feeling tone of ever-rising, or Joy. There is superabundance. As William Blake said "Energy is eternal delight". There is within given relationships, such as "me and my world", deeply valued meanings, but if these meanings becomes absolutized and fixed, the unconditioned joy giving rise to the whole picture goes into eclipse.  The world in eclipse is an endless reaching for lost Joy, one compensation after another.

It's the "under the sun" part of the "nothing new" clause that becomes all important at this point. You'll recall that Neo's name in the Matrix is Thomas Anderson. The name Anderson comes from the Greek andros, or man. This makes Neo the "Son of Man" - it is the search in us that constitutes our true identity. And when we identify with it, we see the world as it is, and that truth gives us the freedom to make our own choices, instead of being slaves to the Law of Cause and Effect. The truth sets us free. It delivers us from the Wheel of Karma, from samsara. Instead of "through a glass darkly", we now see the world face to face. "When the doors of perception are cleansed, we shall see the world as it is...infinite." - William Blake

My religious upbringing has had a great deal of influence on the spiritually inclined man I am today and I am very grateful for that. If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? If I don’t tell you my religion does it mean I don’t have one? Do I have to say the word “Rama” or “Jesus” or  "HaShem" or “Buddha” or “Allah” to mean the same thing? Isn’t language a man-made construct that artificially limits a meaning to make it more digestible? Does the word “love” fully encompass its infinite variations? If I don’t say the word “love” does it mean I don’t love you? If I can’t put it into words does it mean I don’t feel it? Does it make it less real?

I don’t need a religious text to tell me it feels right to be good to other people. I don’t need a person in a robe to tell me when I’ve done something wrong. I don’t need to choose sides when people kill each other because they use different words to describe the indescribable..

No one wants to make the wrong choice especially if it means burning in a fiery pit for eternity. If you still want to know which religion I am: I am a Hindu-by-choice. I like that term. If you think of the countless people born and raised in a given religion, many of them practice half-heartedly or not at all by the time they are adults. People who seek and embrace a spiritual path on their own tend to be very devout in their practice. When something is just given to you you tend to take it for granted, but when you earn it on your own with much effort it tends to be very precious to you. I am fully convinced that I was led to the dharma. It found me. The Universe willed it.

'And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.' -  Paulo Coelho

I am trying to figure out the reasoning's behind my impatience.. the overwhelming brain functions with all the potential subject matter swarming through my head! If one could have a panic attack at the mere thought of blogging then that is what I am experiencing right this second! It is 5 AM and I literally have to step away from my computer in an effort to calm the sudden rapid fire of circuitry within my brain.

It is funny, I have been wanting to post for more than a week now.. but been putting it aside and today when I am sitting down here in front of my PC at 5 in the morning I am experiencing this!!

It’s ludicrous! The thoughts – like young children vying for the undivided attention of its mother – clamor above each other. Ricocheting off my frontal lobes is a battle of prospective subject candidates endeavoring to be heard by me. Whichever emotion, thought, unasked question, or unspoken deed to ultimately capture my notice is then allowed the privilege of being expressed through the written word.

The creation of my blog! To me, a personal diary, some to be understood only by me. Reminding me; I am still a Jiva not free of Maya. Yet here I am reaching(trying) out to my Atma... the ME not tied to a body or earthly existence in any way.

Vishwaroopam

More than, the ban of Vishwaroopam, I have become a little tired of the efforts for "high production value" in recent years. It seems like many Indian, especially south film making "pundits" see this as meaning "special effects" more than anything else. The number of movies that are just high quality works with good actors and a strong plot and few extra, unneeded frills seems to have greatly decreased in the last couple of decades.

Good movie, specifically cinematography is not just about ‘eye‑candy’, but about giving substance and meaning to what’s on screen, using technology, skill and artistic expression.  It’s not even just about careful framing and high production values: matching up ‘moods’ and ‘feels’ is arguably even more important. And Vishwaroopam is one such movie with outstanding cinematography & audio-graphy brought together in a brilliant way by Dr. Kamal Haasan!

Ishq se rab ka raaz mila hai..

Okay! Listen up as I once again, start my bombilation;

Senses:
We always need to be able experience something within our five senses before we would accept it to be, let alone judging it. As a matter of fact these days it seems we do not need to even experience something before we would come to a judgment about it. It is only when we have to accept it for our own good we require the experience within our five senses.

Ignorance:
Take for example; the moon, it is forever rotating the world, existing! And if you want to see the moon, one does not find the need to use a candle or a torch light. The emanation of the moon itself is enough to see it. Yet, we are only able to see it in the dark. We have for generations focused in subduing our full potential power from within. We were all raised to compare, judge and live accordingly but with limitations but today when Morgan Freeman decides to talk about the “Cosmic Consciousness”, we are suddenly inclined towards it, elevated.

Advaita:
We find it easy to understand cosmic consciousness but not easy enough to practice it. Confusion arises when it teaches us to look at everything as one. How can the four legged animal and I be the same? One might ask. Let me break it down; look at your hand for a moment. Your fingers are all different from each other, but are they separate? They all arise from the same hand. Similarly, the objects, animals, plants and people in the world are all definitely different in their appearance/functioning. But they are all connected at their source—they come from the same source. This one “Being” that is behind all life has an infinite number of different expressions that we experience as different objects.

Anbe Sivam again!!

I was watching "Anbe Sivam" last night, WHAT A MOVIE!!! and beautiful concept and thought! If you have not yet watched the movie I say you are missing a lot.. really lot! My one liners about the movie as follows: I exist within me only. Others exist because one imagine others do. Otherwise," other" is not here. No past; No future, only PRESENT! And, there is nothing to give and take in the world. Only to share with the others. All relations, friends, acquaintance and strangers are just a small part of your life. Don't take any talks of culture, religion and civilization sincerely. They are decaying with each moment of time. Death is most lovable part of life. It can come in conscious or unconscious state of mind. Love is is the only truth.

So, please, watch the movie at least for this awesome quote by Kamala Hassan in the film; Love would be cherished even if the Taj Mahal were to be ram shackled. Communism is a feeling, which would continue to amaze everyone when the underlying egalitarian thought is provoked in our everyday life moments. It was there and would be there, although an attempt in the Soviet Union has been faltered. There is a difference between validity of the concept and the fallouts in execution. We would be insulting Gandhi if we wore Khadhi, preached indignity of fellow beings, mocked self-respect and humiliated truth.

Reading your mind..

It all started with my all time comic Hero Spider Man, I read all kinds of stuff: books, magazines, newspapers, blogs, and even micro blogs like Twitter. I also read a wide variety of genres. My tastes are very eclectic. Mostly, I just enjoying discovering and experiencing new things. Am I posting for a profile, one might ask! But no, I am just stating this.

Anyway currently I am reading two books that I like to share:

God is not great and The love dare.

God is not great is filled with venom and vitriol that it is easy to get caught up in the passion and not pay much attention to what is actually being said, which is smart and well-thought-out. In fact, it shows a lifetime of thought, as it stretches from Christoper Hitchens as a child to Hitchens as a disgruntled adult. Christoper Hitchens is the author btw. However, this well-thought-out thesis is damaged by something that has plagued all people throughout time, and one that was recently brought up in a History Channel presentation about the influence of the Star Wars movies on our culture (yes, Star Wars. It's relevant.). One of the commentators brought up Anakin Skywalker's somewhat immature comment "If you're not with me, you're my enemy," and Obi-Wan's response "Only a Sith deals in absolutes."

Hence; I think if the book had simply been titled "How Religion Poisons Everything I would have agreed to it more. And not to forget the fact that I was/am looking for some sort of continuum! ;)

The Love Dare was presented to me buy a buddy.. the book is about trying to be better spouses and be more patient, we are faced with wifes/husbands who are the antithesis to everything in this book. The Love Dare's answer to that? Love is unconditional. BULLSHIT I said! LMAO.

But go ahead and read it if you can ... quite interesting. FYI- is a "christened" book by Stephen Kendrick.

Take Aim!

"tomorrow will always be a question so let us cherish today and be open about anything and everything. Make today the happiest day of our lives! "

The above quote from my previous post is a summary of today's post..so if you do not feel like reading it all then STOP. It pisses me off when many people complain that it is not an "ideal situation" in their life to attempt something... anything. Let me tell you two things. Firstly, you will never have "a lot of time" for even the most important preparation in your life. Secondly, and this is something that I strongly believe in, mainly because I have been burnt by it before. And that is - there is never an "ideal time" to do anything in your life. There never is. There is always an inconvenience, a complication, an unforeseen problem, a random change of plans. I personally had a million things like this. What this post is trying to do is to say that such things should not be looked upon as bad luck. But as evidence of your requirement to plan better and fight it out. To get the adrenalin flowing! Because fighting it out during an inconvenient time, is probably the only time when you will live life to the fullest.

Dronacharyar was taking his protégés along for a trip during their training phase. It is said that Dronacharya was the greatest teacher in Archery who ever lived and among those following him as a group of students was the great Arjunan, Duryodhanan, Ashwathaman, Nakulan, Yudhishtiran and the rest of the band. This is a story, which you may have heard before. It is a special story for me. This is my chance to say this story in my own words. So hear it again.

Dronacharyar stopped a few hundred yards away from a tree and called Ashwathaman by his side. He pointed to the far away tree and asked Ashwathama "Do you see the tree over there". And Ashwathaman says "yes". "Do you see a bird sitting on the branch of that tree", asks the revered teacher. Ashwathaman says “yes! I can see". Upon which Dronacharyar instructs Ashwathama to take his bow & arrow and take aim. He says "don't shoot! Just take aim".

Ashwathaman, who is chaffing at the reputation being second best archer in the world to Arjunan, takes out his bow and arrows and marks his target ( which quite far away) and he places his arrow on his bow and pulls the string towards him, ready to shoot. His rivalry with Arjunan is well documented and he wants to be known as the best archer who ever lived. Dronacharya now asks him, " what do you see Ashwathama?"

Ashwathama replies " I see the bird, its legs, the twigs on the branch in which the bird sits, the small mango behind the bird, the leaves surrounding the bird, a small worm on the branch that approaches the bird." The surrounding crowd is amazed. Bheeman could barely see the bird and nobody else had the eyesight to spot so many small details that Ashwathama so casually spotted. The fire burned inside Ashwathama to out beat his greatest rival and this fire allowed him to see what other could not. Dronacharyar does not seem impressed and tells him "Shoot! but you shall miss". Ashwathama, son of Dronacharyar, is insulted by the prediction of his own father and fires his arrow. He misses. He was given one shot and he missed. Dronacharyar would never give him another chance. He wouldn't want it either.

So Dronacharyar calls upon Arjunan, who as the books say is standing quietly behind the crowd watching the proceedings. "Arjuna, do you see the tree and the bird in it". Arjunan replies in affirmative. "Take aim then Arjuna, but do not fire your arrow until I say so".

So there stands Arjuna. And as great many writers have described before, he stands in a majestic posture with bow slightly tilted skywards, his powerful body arched as much as the bow. Observers seemed to feel the urge to see once more in order to distinguish between the man and the bow as they seemed to have merged into a single entity. So there stood Arjuna, on windy day like a statue, unmoved as Dronacharyar took the time to ask the question. "So, Arjuna what do you see?" Arjunan replied "I see the eye of the bird O' teacher". Dronacharyar smiled and asked once more “Do you see anything else?". Arjuna took his time and said “No! I don't. I don’t even see the feathers. I just see the eye of the bird".

Dronacharyar said “Shoot and you shall not miss". Legends never describes what happened after Arjuna shot the arrow. It is assumed that once he fires - the target is his. So Arjuna fired and that is the end of the story.

What got me thinking about this story? I always think about this story. There are small stories and big stories that move people. Such stories influence people and remains with them forever. This story among the millions of stories in the great epic Mahabharata is to emphasize the value of single minded focus and concentration in achieving success. Opportunities knock but once. From my experience during such moments you always have to see the eye of the bird, the core of your target before you take aim. It is the sighting that counts, the firing is almost incidental, a mere confirmation of the sighting. I have so many times noticed this as the key difference between success and failure. It is in the sighting.

Now in this computer age steeped in algorithmic approach to life, you may think "once I get the understanding on the importance of sighting. I should be able to crack the problem". But let me tell you friends. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Arjunan was given a difficult test but his story is under typical conditions. Silence, nothing else but the bird to focus on, and nothing but the wind to disturb you.

In life, when you are moving towards the most significant test of life, a test, which if you shall pass will not only make you great but will open the key to your dreams - may not be in such typical conditions. You just get one shot.. Imagine that shot in a James Bond movie. Now I am not comparing or contrasting Bond and Arjunan. I would never think of doing so. I am trying to find an example which a modern day youth can identify with. Bond is dangling on a cliff a rope (a thin slender rope) is tied to his left leg on one side and a tree on the other side. This is what stops Bond from falling down 10,000 feet. He is upside down, shaking in the air, it is biting cold with a lot of fog, the enemies are firing at him. His target is a mile away and moving. The vision is blurry. Bond then looks into his gun and finds that he just has one bullet left. He just gets one shot. He has to sight the eye of the target in that moment, fire and win.

Ladies and gentlemen! This is the typical modern day test to achieve your goals. This is real life. There will never be an ideal time to run towards an opportunity of a lifetime. There will never be an orchestrated test. This is not to belittle Arjunan's feat (he may have had other tests which was much harder than my favorite test which I quoted above) but just an explanation of tests the way I see it in the modern world. You just get one shot and if you fail, it's gone forever. You will only be left fighting for lesser trophies. The one shot separates people. During that one shot a person has to shut out all the other ambient noise and zone in on his target. That is the essence of a true warrior. There is and was only one Arjunan in times when many great warriors lived, so it is natural that in today’s age only a few will hit and many will miss. But it is the process of sighting gives valuable instructions on the irrevocable nature of life.

So do take aim and focus.. but only so when it is needed..

Take Aim!

Good morning folks! Its 8:03 a. m. and to those of us arose from sleep; Are we “awake”? We breath the oxygen to sustain our bodies but are we “ALIVE”? In our metamorphosis of spirit have we truly stepped outside the boundaries of self & grew into a loving consciousness that embraces all?Lets us grow beyond the hypocrisy of self-centeredness & live… Love YOU!

Now wait, did Jegan just say that? You might ask; Well, here is an explanation of the above;

"Until my beliefs, thoughts, and intentions were in alignment with the natural laws and the principles of this world I continued to be behind the dust of ignorance. I am what I think I am. All that I am arises with my thoughts. With my thoughts, I make my world. I live in illusion and the appearance of things. There is a reality. I am that reality. When you understand this, you see that you are nothing, and being nothing, you are everything. That is all. This is I, Jegathpriyan!"

So all that I am trying to replete here is the 'full story' is that absolutely everything perceived by/as any perspective, ever, whether the hand before you, a thought, or the keyboard that you use, dinosaurs or colonies, asteroids and galaxies, ... the complete universe! is all....
'Self!'
'One'
Ultimately, no 'external'. Nothing is 'external' to existence, that which is perceived!
That which is perceived exists.
That which exists is perceived.
Not a thing exists that is not perceived.
Not a thing is perceived that does not exist.
There is no, nor can there be, any evidence to the contrary.

The complete Universe (Truth/Reality/Existence/God/Self... or any feature therein) can be defined/described as the sum-total of *all* Perspectives! So if you understand this then you might understand why I said what I said.

"All statements are true in some sense, false in some sense, meaningless in some sense, true and false in some sense, true and meaningless in some sense, false and meaningless in some sense, and true and false and meaningless in some sense." -Robert Anton Wilson

Tera dil to itna baRa hai insaan ka dil tang hai kyon..

Il faut expliquer que, d'une part, le premier précepte de l'homme est le respect de toutes vies, we all should take this to our heart; "You come to love not by finding the perfect person, but by seeing an imperfect person perfectly." I marvel at the good effects of this great emotion called love. It brings out the best in everyone and if I were to become the most powerful person in the world like President Barrack Obama I would find ways to harness the loving natures of everyone so as to heal the world and make it a haven for peace, love and happiness. Easier said than done, I know, but can you imagine a world where everyone is filled with love for everyone else irrespective of race, religion, nationality or political affiliation, if you do, you will understand why I dream about that.... remember I am a lover not a fighter!

My takes..

I was watching Fight Club for the millionth time recently, there is a quote that I adore so much in the movie which goes; "This is your life, and it's ending one minute at a time."

Then the popular song by Coldplay goes;

Please, please, please
Come on and sing to me
To me, me

Come on and sing it out, out, out
Come on and sing it now, now, now
Come on and sing it

In my place, in my place
Were lines that I couldn't change
I was lost, oh yeah

The quote above and the song that follows are the state of my mind now...We've had different experiences and have different opinions and perspectives. That being said, we respect one another enough to value those differences. I have insights. ;-)

I have heard some tell me that I am a skeptical person. In particular, people who are close to me. I will have to agree with them, I do raise a lot of questions, I have to completely understand anything before I can accept it. I do not see any wrong in it. As a matter of fact I think we all should do that and not just be followers. I question not because I do not believe in it but because I am trying to understand it better. I'm not at all particular as to where they stand today with regard to those beliefs, but I feel that without questioning your beliefs, you are basically a robot. To me, that is dull.

I find that people who are raised pragmatic tend to have a healthy value system, and a conscience. They tend to be more apt to be givers, rather than merely takers. Most of my best friends, the people who have stuck with me through thick and thin, fall into this category. To be a giver you have to understand and to understand you have to question.

Personally, I could not imagine being with someone who is absolutely dogmatic and beyond reason. I am happy with someone who is pragmatic, who could maintain a little perspective, and not force me to conform to their beliefs. As many close to me would agree, I won't force anyone to conform to my beliefs.

I think that, for all the lip service paid to being open minded, it is actually a very rare quality. The most human of all character flaws is ego. Ego says that what is mine is right, and must be protected at all costs. Any affront to my ideas or my beliefs, is a personal attack, and so forth. And, as much as I'd like to believe that I'm somehow better than that, even I slip into that pattern of thought.

On those grounds (ego) alone, I think that it is some what difficult for two people who have diametrically opposed viewpoints, to carry out a healthy relationship. I'm certainly not saying it can't happen, only that it is difficult. There are many aspects which makes a healthy relationship, to me open communication and honesty is one the most important aspect. It is because I can share my doubts with you without hurting you and vice-versa, I know we will have a beautiful future together.

We're often told that opposites attract, but I don't think that's true. I think we look for people who tend to share our way of looking at the world. We feel a kinship with them, and a bond. It is all the ways that we are alike that draw us together. Difference fosters understanding and tolerance, a crucial piece to solve our puzzle.

The next track on my win amp goes ; Tu hi re tuu hii re tere bina main kaise jii'uun aa jaa re aa jaa re yuun hii tarpa na tuu mujhko..

Alright, an exaggeration, but I am both very proud and flattered to have been invited by the Sri Lankan Embassy of US to speak at their Pongal celebration – the festival of harvest and spring. This celebration is basically a big get together for dignitaries, consulates, business entrepreneurs AND also anyone who has a vested interest in Sri Lanka to network, share ideas and generally to have a good meal (yup food is obviously involved).

The event took place yesterday 17th Jan 2010 at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington DC. I was asked to do a presentation speech and I just want to share with you guys a little sneak sneak of my day..

Oh, Did I mention I felt so bloody nervous at first. We had a huge list of VIPs, including Tissa Wijeratne-Deputy Chief of Missions, Brigadier Vijitha Ravipriya-Deffense Attache, Dr. Walter Anderson-VP,John Hopkins University and Steve Kerchoff-Representative from the White House. When I was invited to give this speech, I was asked if I could give a simple short talk about the significance of Pongal. No pressure there. Here is the speech;

"Ainthu karathanai aanai mugathanai
Inthin ilam pirai polun yeyitranai
Nandhi magan thanai
Nyana kolunthinai punthiyil
Vaitu adi potrugindreney"

translates -

"We emplace in our minds
The sacred feet of the ONE
The embodiment of wisdom
The five handed
Elephant Visaged- with tusks
Curved like the crescent moon
The son of the Supreme Siva
We adore"

"Ingu koodiyirukum annaivarukum enn panivana vanakam koodiya, pongal nal vaazhthukkalai Koorikondu…

I would like to continue my speech in English for the convenience of everybody in the audience.

Good Evening Ladies and Gentlemen,

I would first like to take this opportunity to wish each and every one of you who have gathered here today to celebrate Thai Pongal. Thank you!

Thai Pongal; a cultural holiday recognized and celebrated by the Tamil communities of Sri Lanka has been around for more than 2000 years. Historically Pongal is a day to celebrate the harvesting season in Sri Lanka and India. It is the day to thank the sun, earth, rain, farmers and farming animals for the yearlong hard work. This two-day festival of nature-worship and thanksgiving takes its name from the Tamil word “pongal” meaning, "boiled rice" and is held on the first day of the Tamil month “Thai” hence the name thai-pongal. During this month, farmers harvest rice, sugar cane and other grains. Pongal is a joyous and happy occasion celebrated by everyone despite social class and faith.

On the day of Pongal, members of the family wake up early in the morning, bathe, puts on new clothes and gather to cook the traditional Pongal which refers to newly harvested rice cooked in new pot with milk and sweetened with jaggery in the direct view of sunlight. Then the cooked pongal is offered to the sun with special prayers by an elder of the family, as if to say thank you. On the next day, Mattu Pongal is celebrated to thank the cattle’s, which helped farmers to plough the fields, transport goods and provide milk to drink. On this day the cattle is bathed, decorated and fed with cooked Pongal.

In current times I believe Pongal is the day to remember our origins and thank our forefathers for teaching us to appreciate nature, cultural values and religious tolerance that they have bestowed upon us for a harmonious and prosperous society. On this festive day, we should banish superstitious beliefs, darkness of ignorance and egoistic arrogance. And instead lit the light of knowledge and embrace the warmth of human love and compassion among all people. Let us cheer pongalo Pongal and cultivate friendly attitude to conquer the minds of men and women; to show empathy; to give up war; give up jealousy; to shower mother Lanka and her people with mercy and love! Let us all live with discipline; charity and harmony for a happy and prosperous life! Pongaloooo pongal!!! Thank you!"

I was elated to get all positive feedbacks out of some 65 people who attended. Some words that were used to describe my speech, outstanding, smooth, beautiful, direct, naked, taut, honest, passionate, lean, shivering, startling, and graceful. What more should I ask for?? I am indeed very thrilled.

Let the man bring about the change that is much needed in this world!!!

Common kids!!! It's time to grow up. It's time to stop taking sides and pretending that your favourite side is innocent. It's time for peace. Mostly it's a time for an end to the religious stupidity and shortsightedness that has plagued our world.

Stop!

Cultivating God

I am sure I caught your attention with the title of this post. But before we go into the subject, I would like to simply put in words the reasons for this post. In recent times, I have been keenly determined to find the reason for my existence in this world. I am not declaring my thirst to be a yogi (Sanskrit term for a male practitioner, who has renounced the world and leads an ascetic life) as I still can’t let go of my desires. But Just! I believe desire is the cause of every existence. Thus, indicating that the reason for my existence is also a cause. So, in my case my parents desire (the cause) to have a child (the effect) brought me to the world. This suggests that every cause has an effect and every effect is the cause of something else. But now I need to know what that something else is. As it (something else) was the cause of the effect that leads me to my question. Did I confuse you already?? If you are still with me read on:

I believe in order to solve a problem; one must first, find the source of the problem. Then it can be easily solved for good. So, to solve my question, I have to find the source. So far I have learned that everything exists in this world because of a cause. Every cause has an effect and every effect is the cause of something else. My parents’ cause (desire) and effect (I). But what caused my parents desire? At this point I would like to quote the author of “The Science of Getting Rich”, Wallace Wattles; “All desire is either possibility seeking expression or function seeking performance."

Naturally my next question is what is the cause of possibility and function or function seeking performance? As a result of my continued search for cause, I choose to believe that there is an ultimate intelligence from which all possibility, function, desire, and intention arise, and it is from this intention that all things in the universe manifest. You might call this Hunab Ku, Jesus, Tao, Brahma, or Allah... You might call this the unified atom of energy and matter. It doesn't matter what you call it, or if you call it at all....

Et Viola! I (believe) have found the source of my problem! God. So all I have to do now is ask God; Why was I created? But, who is God? Where is God? The search continues... We humans have a very strong system which teaches us to find a remedy for any issue with an alternate and care less to find out why it even aroused. Al though it is not entirely wrong and eliminates the issue temporally, it is never a permanent fix. Have you ever wondered why we go thru a cycle of happiness and sadness? And not one where there is only happiness or sadness? Well, I think it is because we don’t solve a problem by getting to the core. If God, an ultimate power, one can’t see, hear, taste or smell is the core cause then there would never be a problem again, right? I am not suggesting there is no God, as I said earlier there is an ultimate force. So, what is it that I am doing wrong?

I had a mislead idea of God. If only I had realized earlier, that the ultimate force creating the cause and the effect in and around me is nothing but me, I would have found the solution much earlier. So, why do I claim I am my God? It is because; all my happiness and sadness are a direct effect of my cause in this world. I am given the opportunity to explore, learn, seek, create and experience the many wonders in life. How I choose to spend my days is ultimately up to myself; my choices. The power of mind or emotions is far above the physical power. The finite alone can readily be comprehended, by the sense-organs, the mind and the intellect of man, at his present “state” of consciousness. Take love for example; I crave a lover who can slip inside my mind; ideally, someone who has not only heard of my every trauma and triumph from birth, but also experienced them with me. I want to unburden myself with an admirer who knows my darkest/deepest secrets, yet delights in me with unswerving devotion. In reality there can’t be anyone but me! I would like to quote a saying I have heard my grand mother say; “You may search the universe for someone more worthy of your love and affection than you are to yourself but such a person does not exist.” And I would bet my life for this would be the same with you.

Until my beliefs, thoughts, and intentions were in alignment with the natural laws and the principles of this world I continued to be behind the dust of ignorance. I am what I think I am. All that I am arises with my thoughts. With my thoughts, I make my world. I live in illusion and the appearance of things. There is a reality. I am that reality. When you understand this, you see that you are nothing, and being nothing, you are everything. That is all. This is I, Jegathpriyan!

Ok, so now to the title subject; Cultivating God essentially means cultivating me. Why? Because, I still don’t have an answer to my question. Now, let’s take a look at what I mean by cultivating me:
It is the process I am in now, to know, I am the cause of my fear, stress, anger, jealousy, sexual tension or frustration, how to control my mind and emotions and how to direct all my life into a truly loving direction. To love is to will good to another for your sake. By doing so I am giving unconditional love to everyone as I understand and acknowledge that it is for my own sake.

Now, you may ask; what does giving unconditional love to everyone for my own sake do in return to the society? Well, others don’t know the motive of my love but just the fact that I am sharing my love, my unconditional love to them and feels pushed to share a similar habit. In case you have not noticed, we humans are for the most part blind followers of something. Some of which are religion, culture, media or your neighbor next door. It has been stripping away our individuality! Our individuality which tells us only one thing to follow in life, ourselves! The choices we make in our lives. Therefore I need to start from the cause of my choices, what makes a choice?

At this juncture, as an example, I would like to reprise an account of my life. I do not need to tell you that in life, change is constant. Things are always dissolving, diluting, dying. Thus one can either race against time in an effort to accomplish as much as possible "squeeze it all in" which can be fun and exhilarating but ultimately can wear you out. Or ride life’s ever-charging flow by learning to relax, surrender, and let go, you realize that stillness is a magnet for contentment. What ever that you choose when it comes to friendship, I think that by not telling your friend how you really feel, you are doing a great disservice to yourself and your friendship. Well, I was once befriended by an individual who wanted to be a friend of everyone. Al though to be friends with everyone is good, one also has to be well aware of the fact that "labeling" is what everyone does. If you want to be a friend of everyone...you will end up being a friend of no one. .If you’re sacrificing yourself for friendships which would never exist if you hadn’t changed your personality, are these friendships worth having? Personally I am not willing to sacrifice myself in the name of extending my circle of friends. I’ve come to realize that perhaps there are people who’ll never see eye-to-eye, who’ll never be able to be your true friends. I understand this to be an unending debate. For friendship is; compromise as much as self-worth is individuality. The important point here is “compromise as much as self-worth is individuality” well, this past friend of mine failed to realize that. Thus causing erupts between us and others.

As I said earlier, my mislead life made me make a choice to leave him and not be the friend he needed to realize what he was doing wrong. Thus, a port of connection between me and my surrounding was lost. If I had only shared love with him and helped him see the person in him, his own self, we would have still be friends and making a good change in the environment we live in a more efficient manner. The problem I had was I was looking for happiness in a person; not to say that is unhealthy but the problem was I expected someone else to make me happy. By doing so I set my self up to be hurt because of my expectations! As our natural state of mind is generally self-centered, we tend to seek love that is visionary. By saying that I mean often times one wants to be welcomed when coming in and wants to be received. Physical (self) love.

But again, selfishness is exactly the problem that we have as people. One of the problems that we have when somebody brings correction to us, we tend to imagine that correction as so out of the ordinary, so unusual, so above and beyond what’s appropriate. And it’s very difficult often for us to receive correction because we tend to camp out in a sense that, “Hey, I’m doing pretty well and I’m trying hard.” And of course we really underline the phrase, “I’m trying hard.” So when some criticism comes against us, there’s an offense because we say, “Well you don’t see how hard I’m trying and you’re just making this cut and dry statement criticizing me and...” So we tend to operate out of selfishness and selfishness means self-interest. To doubt is human, and all of us at some time or the other have experienced irrational doubts. But instead of succumbing to your doubts, learn from them by resolving. I did not obviously learn to resolve a problem like I would do now till recently. So, a friend was lost.

To cultivate-self is like when I build a house for me and my family. The porches or verandas are all without, and are secondary. The building is really constructed for the conveniences within, because I am the primary (GOD). Never the less the building is as important as me for our existence so I need to realize the magnitude of my well being for the building and I to stand together! Pause: When God (self, I) interacts with my prayers draws me into deeper trust, dependence, and obedience; I get introduced to sin that I need to confront. I recognize patterns of behavior I need to break. I gain insights into which I am that I didn't have before. I discover a depth of relationship with God that I've never before experienced. But it is never enough!!!!
