To find true friendship, I have now realized that I need to give my true, honest and unconditional love to you. Especially through hard emotional times. I know it is easy to break but extremely hard to patch up. So I am not going to end it here now I shall wait for the day to begin a new.. I know keeping contact is hard but I would never give up cause I know it is hard to keep you but it will be a lot harder to find you again. You once asked me; "if you believe in rebirth then what relation would you like to have with me?" and I said I do not believe in rebirth, I lied!!!

The thing is; I know it is hard to wait on something that you think might never happen, but it is harder to give up when it is all that I ever wanted! Someone once said shout and everyone hears what you say, whisper and those close hear what you say, be silent and those who loves you would hear what you say.. I hope you can hear me.

I can remember being at recess in grade school, chasing my bff (best friend forever) around the playground because she wouldn’t talk to me. I was gasping for breath, begging her through sobs to tell me what was wrong. She was laughing with the other girls and blatantly ignoring me. She had also asked everyone in school not to talk to me and they were happy to oblige for no good reason. She broke my little 8 year old heart.

But at the end of that awful day, I had one thought that comforted me. One thought that gave me hope:

"When I grow up, I won’t have to deal with these childish situations. Adults don’t treat their best friends like this."

Oops. Cut to 20, 25 years later. The situations are more complicated on this playground, but we still chase each other around. Truth be told, we still refuse to talk to each other and even ignore each other if we can get away with it.

I think it bears reviewing; a refresher course on friendship and even more specifically, what to do if and when you feel your friendship has run it's course.

At best, a friendship that has come to an end will mutually fade away and become a good memory. At worst, we hang on to a friendship out of sentimentality, obligation or guilt and end up with irreparable damage inflicted upon everyone involved.

So, how do we know when a friendship is over and how do we make the best choice to end it?

Modhi Vilayadu

Modhi Vilayadu by Hariharan & Leslie Lewis is undoubtedly an album (Tamil) much ahead of its time. It has a total of 6 songs, almost all with no synthesized music, in other words minimal use of electronica and more authentic instruments (folk and Western. However each and every song has got a haunting melody which sometimes is so easy on ears and sometimes requires our utmost concentration and attention to consume the complete beauty it offers. For casual listeners, such songs could bring some yawn but if you are patient enough, this is definitely an album to be cherished by all music lovers.
Vellaikaari - A very peppy 80s style song with a lot of Colonial Cousins feel to it. The songs has a unique fusion of pop, rap and classical music. Hariharans' voice and passionate singing in the song will definitely mesmerize you.

Otrai vaarthayil - Though the melody is ordinary. It has some beautiful back drops.. the musical portion like with opening strings and the guitar and the piano to follow. Beautiful! The song does at times seems to remind you of Kadu Thirandhu from Vasool Raja. It could be of the same raga (not sure) I say that because in one of the interviews aired on Republic day by Sun TV Hari mentions ( in the presence of Saran ) that Saran was very inclined to certain ragas and you can always hear it in all his film songs.

Chikki mukki - A very romantic song expressing lust with choice of words and singing. The highlight is when Hariharan enters with a mind blowing aalap. The aalap alone brings the whole feel of the song in a swift!

Latcham vaarthaigal -Brilliant composition and good singing (voice texture and attitude) .. it is a very situational song it seems will have to see the movie.

Modhi Vilaydu - The tune, rhythm, lyrics as well as Hariharan and Deva’s attitude highlights a joyful, go get - be a winner feel. A very catchy song with loud bangs and attitude.

Paadhi Kaadhal - My pick of the album, this songs loosely based on raga Charukesi ( correct me if wrong)is one of a kind. Hariharan & Leslie has restricted the vocal melody mostly to that of Hindustani-Ghazal with typical vibrations, expressions and wavering of notes and the rhythm part mostly to Western-Jazz feel with not avoiding the Indian Instruments like Thavil and sticks to that of jazzy blues. Sunitha Sarathy excels with the western portion showcasing great attitude and dynamics. Bombay Jeyashree is simply awesome!! What a combination. I would have loved to hear Hari sing this song but oh well I guess cant ask for it all ;)

Overall 4/5 Must Buy!!!

Stress

SLEEP...funny, how the mind works when unable to sleep. It’s been suggested that a way to avoid or escape from getting mired in our own dark thoughts is to consider all that we have to be grateful for, but often take for granted. It’s also an exercise of our humanity to increase our empathy for those with true difficulties... like my fellow Tamils in Sri Lanka!

So, I try to be grateful for the things I have. A home, comfortable bed and pillow…food (more than I need). I have a great job in the financial field where people’s lives can be greatly improved. Family, friends and colleagues. I don’t live in a war zone or a refugee camp. So you see, there is a lot to be grateful for.
