Jhootha!

Jhootha Hi Sahi, the recent release from A R R seems to have a strong dose of Rahman’ish flavaa!

CRY CRY – Rashid Ali, Shreya Ghoshal

"no no no, kabhi nahi.." quite addictive lines from this song by Rashid and Shreya makes it interesting al though it reminds me of Aditi - JTYJN and Kadu Potai Kadu from Karuthamma. It is similar in its free-flowing format and conversational lyrics, particularly when Shreya Ghoshal joins, this one is vintage Rahman-style slow poison!

"Cry cry itna cry karte hain kaayko.. Itna darrte hain kaayko.. Pal pal marrte kaayko.. Why why aisa why waisa kyun hota..Hona hai jo ho.."

HELLO HELLO – Karthick

Hello hello is where Rahman plays his genre-bending card…rather well. With a faint echo of Middle-eastern, but treading pleasant experimentation, this track by Karthick is interesting precisely because of its unconventional sound! Though I think Shankar Mahadevan or even Adnan Sami would have been a better choice.

MAYYA YASHODA – Chinmayee,Javed Ali

Chinmayee sounds different and surprisingly in brilliant form, must have been through a million takes! Mayya Yashoda is kinda unique with its spiritual at the same time spooky traditional tune that gets hyper-enthusiastic towards the end thanks to Javed Ali. Although once again this songs reminds me of Radha Kaise Na Jale - Lagaan.

CALL ME DIL – Rashid Ali

Call me dil‘s dulcet notes get accentuated because of Rashid Ali’s vocals as Rahman gets his balladish orchestration pitch-perfect here!

DO NISHAANIYAN – Sonu Nigam

Sonu goes all romantic in Do nishaaniyan, but it sounds at best like a Yuvvraaj leftover, except for Abbas’s fascinating lyrics! I think this song would have been elevated to higher levels if Hariharan was used.

PAM PA RA – Shreya Ghoshal

Pam pa ra, is okay. Charming... Shreya the Savior!! The song has heavy resemblance from Mere Dil Ka Wo - Kabhi Na Kabhi.

I’LL BE WAITING – Vijay Yesudas

I’ll be waiting is the soundtrack’s stunning highlight – Vijay Yesudas in a dreamy, beautifully orchestrated, jazzy package that touches on lovely Hindi lyrics too! Again Hariharan is the man for these kinda songs!! Though Vijay does do a decent job.

There are two remixes – Do Nishaaniyan ( Reprise ) and Mayya Yashoda ( Thames Mix ) in the album…

As if making up for Endhiran’s bombastic outburst, Rahman delivers and succeeds with a gorgeous experiment, quite confidently!

Overall raaaating : 4/5
